WHAT IS THE STRAWFIE CHALLENGE?

The Breathe With Me Strawfie Challenge is how we ask the general public to feel a connection with people who live with cystic fibrosis (CF) every day.
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects around 10, 800 people in the UK (approximately 70,000 people worldwide).
Cystic fibrosis is life shortening. It is a complex disease that can affect the lungs, pancreas and other vital organs. It can even lead to CF related diabetes.

Quality of life is affected with many hours of treatment, physiotherapy and numerous hospitalisations for most with the disease.
​
Many people who have CF say that it can feel like trying to breathe through a straw. The straw breathing example has been used many times over the years.
CF families, hoping to make a difference by raising both awareness and funds, launched a social media campaign that swiftly took off and became known as the ‘Strawfie Challenge’
​
Our campaign song is 'Breathe With Me' (click on video link below). The message is in the song. Living with cystic fibrosis is hard. Please try just one small aspect of what CF patients go through - the fight to breathe - try breathing through a straw with a pinched nose for one minute.

The song was produced by well-known songwriter, producer and Musical Director Simon Ellis who has worked as a Musical Director on tours for Britney Spears and The Spice Girls. He also co-wrote and produced a number of S Club 7 hits.
